Why doesn’t the law of attraction work? That is a great question and one I expect many people ask. The basic answer is that it does work - infallibly, but there are tricks to using it effectively. This article will address one of the main ones, specificity.
I had a friend who was a radio DJ and loved it, but he yearned to be the one making the music on stage instead of just playing it…he wanted to be a music star. Well, he decided his measure of success towards that end would be achieved when he had his name on a guitar strap. A friend of his made him a custom guitar strap with his name in silver. Was he successful in the way he wanted to be? Of course not! He wasn’t making music on stage.
Then he decided success would be achieved when he had his face printed on a t-shirt, like so many famous musicians. As it turned out, the radio station he worked for had a t-shirt made with likenesses of each of the DJs. Was he successful? No, he still wasn’t playing his music on stage. He could be asking "Why doesn’t the law of attraction work?"
He said he wanted to move thousands of people to feel the way he wanted them to feel. He was regularly asked to introduce bands on stage and excite the audience prior to their performance. Was he successful yet? Well, he did achieve exactly what he declared he wanted to, but he still wasn’t playing his music on stage.
He was frustrated and discontent because he didn’t have what he wanted, a successful career as a famous musician. Basically, at this point he was saying “Why doesn’t the law of attraction work?” But what he really needed to understand is that he effortlessly manifested exactly what he desired. The problem was he just wasn’t specific enough and didn’t focus on the "big picture."
Just imagine if you knew you could have anything you asked for if only you learned to ask correctly, would that discourage you or excite you? Let’s explore a couple of examples. Say you want a million dollars so you decide you want to win the lottery. Do you really want to win the lottery? Do you really want a million dollars? Maybe what you really want is at least a million dollars and you really don’t care how it comes to you! So being specific, what you want is at least a million dollars to come to you effortlessly. Or maybe even more specifically, you want the freedom that unlimited finances would give you.
How about love? Say Suzie wants Joe but Joe isn’t interested. Does she really want Joe or does she want someone who fills her with the feelings that Joe fills her with? If she just focuses on getting Joe, she limits the Universe from sending her any of the many men that may be even more perfect for her because not only do they make her feel the way Joe does, but they are interested in her and she makes them feel the way they want as well.
Limiting ourselves can very definitely limit our success. One mantra we use often is “Don’t focus on the how, focus on the what.” Focus on the feelings in a perfect relationship; focus on the freedom one million dollars will give you. Focus on the excitement and energy of the perfect career. Forget about the problems, focus on the solutions! This is what being specific will help you manifest.
